After hosting The Tonight Show for over two decades, it was finally time for Jay Leno to say goodbye and hand over the torch to Jimmy Fallon.
But it wasn’t all laughs for Leno as he said his last words as the host. In his goodbye, he choked back tears and called his time on NBC “the greatest 22 years of my life.”
Leno also expressed his gratitude for his Tonight Show “family” who he says made him look smarter, sound better and helped him through tough times.
“The first year of the show, I lost my mom. The second year, I lost my dad,” he said. “Then my brother died and after that I was pretty much out of family… and the folks here became my family.”
It’s such a sweet farewell for Leno and the show truly had a good, long run with him as the host. We’re sure The Tonight Show has been left in good hands.
