Little Mix lace up their (probably very cute) trainers as they release Sport Relief’s official single, “Word Up!”
The girls were on hand to premiere the song on Nick Grimshaw’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show in the U.K.
The song is actually a cover of funk group Cameo’s eighties hit of the same name, but we have to admit we like Little Mix’s version much better. Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall just sound oh so lovely when they can harmonize like they do in their take of the throwback tune. We’re also a big fan of the insane big stadium rock guitar near the end of the track.
We’re also going to assume that if they do indeed make a video for the single, Little Mix’s version will feature less meggings than in the original Cameo video. Seriously, I still can’t believe meggings were a thing in the eighties.
As part of the U.K.’s Comic Relief charity, Sport Relief runs on alternate years to their sister charity’s popular Red Nose Day. With the support of entertainers (like Little Mix) and big sports stars (David Beckham), Sport Relief raises money to help support a variety of programs that aim to build communities, make lives safer and provide better futures across the U.K. and the world.
