2013 has been a crazy year for us at ANDPOP. Not only did we get a brand-spanking new website (it’s so pretty), we also got the chance to sit down with many our favourite artists to shoot the shit, get a little bit silly and to learn a little bit more about them. We had so much fun that we hope we can bring you, our dear readers, more great, amazing, crazy interviews in 2014.

From incredibly stupid pranks (don’t try them at home) to words of wisdom, here are 10 of our favourite interviews of the 2013.

Happy New Year!

10. Ariana Grande

So what do you possibly do to make pop music’s next big thing feel a little bit more relaxed after a hectic day of travelling? Paint pretty seahorses, of course! Ariana Grande tells ANDPOP’s Caity Babcock all about going to this year’s VMAs, rapper Mac Miller, seahorses and what it’s like to be a huge pop star at such a young age.

9. Austin Mahone

if Ariana Grande is pop music’s next big female act, Austin Mahone is her male counterpart. This past summer, we threw a livestream party for the 17-year-old “Banga Banga” singer on our rooftop and invited a small group of his Canadian Mahomies over. Not only did Austin perform two songs for us, he also taught a couple of fans a couple of dance moves!

8. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga may be one of the world’s biggest names in music but none of the attention seems to have to her brain. The “Applause” singer tells ANDPOP’s Simon Mohos how her fans, a.k.a. her Little Monsters, continue to inspire her every day.

7. Zoella

As one of our favourite YouTubers, we couldn’t help but rush out to meet Zoe Sugg a.k.a. Zoella when she and her other vlogger friends came to Canada for the first ever Digitour this year. We’re happy to report that this YouTube darling is just as sweet, nice and funny in person as she is on camera. It’s no wonder why keep tuning in to watch this lifestyle guru every week.

See more extras from the DigiTour HERE.

6. Robin Thicke

If you’re finally going to break the mainstream, you might as well do it with some controversy. Critics called Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” music video and song “misogynist,” while others couldn’t help but bop their head along to the the Pharrell-produced beat. Robin Thicke talks to ANDPOP’s Simon Mohos about “Blurred Lines,” what it was like to work with Pharrell on the song and moving in a new direction — all before his other big kerfuffle of the year: that twerk-tastic VMA performance with Miley Cyrus.

5. Fifth Harmony

What do you get when you put the five bubbly girls from Simon Cowell’s next big thing in one room? The world’s best round of Truth or Dare. If this is how much fun Fifth Harmony has together on a regular basis, we’d like to be invited to a real slumber party with the band. Just imagining all the shenanigans they could/would get up to just makes us giddy.

4. Tyler, The Creator

We couldn’t think of a better person to do a prank call with than Tyler, the Creator. He came up with the world’ most elaborate prank call on the fly. If there was ever an Oscar for prank calls, Tyler, the Creator deserves one for this gag.

3. Selena Gomez

Oh, Selena, Selena, Selena. What could we possibly say about Selena Gomez that hasn’t already been said? She’s gorgeous, talented and incredibly gracious in person. She also helps ANDPOP’s Simon onto the path of enlightened boyfriend as she teaches him a little bit about yoga’s seven chakras.

2. The Janoskians

What could we possibly do with YouTube’s infamous pranksters that haven’t done already? Stick condoms up our noses! ANDPOP’s Simon might’ve debased himself for the occasion but in the end, it was all worth it. After all, the Janoskians called our time with them “the best interview ever,” and yes, we would very much like a trophy for that.

1. Jonas Brothers

We couldn’t help but shed many a tear when the Jonas Brothers announced they were breaking up back in October. Considering we just spent our whole summer caring obsessing over their comeback, we were heartbroken. With that in mind, we can’t help but treasure Simon’s time with the Jonas Brothers. They tell him about their first make-out sessions, getting black out drunk and first CDs in this special episode.
