I hate to say it, but we never really do expect celebrity relationships to last that long — it’s not like they’ve got the greatest track record.
From A-list to reality stars, there have been tons of surprising break-ups this year. Some we saw coming the moment the relationship became Facebook officials; others shattered our hearts in millions of pieces because we honestly thought they would be the one that lasts.
To help jog your memory, here are the 10 Biggest Celebrity Break-Ups of 2013.
10. Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr
She’s a gorgeous super model and he’s a gorgeous actor — they were basically perfection personified. They even had the most adorable son together, Flynn, who turns three next month. They began dating in 2007, got married in 2010 and then confirmed in October that they actually ended it months before. So what went wrong?! According to their reps, Orlando and Miranda are still on good terms. They’ve even been spotted out and about together with their tiny tot, but it’s all just a tease. The two are currently still separated and have no plans of rekindling their relationship. However, after being together for six whole years, Orlando and Miranda win the longest relationship award in this year’s biggest celeb break-ups. Um, congrats?
9. Kaley Cuoco and Henry Cavill
Sure, it only lasted two weeks, but that’s the best part — no real drama! When The Big Bang Theory star dated The Man Of Steel, we thought it was a nerdy OTP made in heaven. Fast-forward to two weeks later and we (don’t deny having some sort of hope for this hot couple) were totally wrong. We were SO wrong that Kaley didn’t even wait for 2013 to end before moving on and getting engaged to tennis player Ryan Sweeting after three months of dating! I guess Penny and Superman were just too good to be true.
8. Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult
I know it’s been said that they are back together now, but seriously, no list is complete without some kind of mention of Jennifer Lawrence! She’s the Girl On Fire and I can’t get enough of her. Honestly, with her tales of butt plugs and peeing in the ocean, her relationship status isn’t even the most interesting thing about her.
A romance sparked between the two while on the set of 2011’s X-Men: First Class, but after two years and some “growing apart,” they called it quits in January. Fortunately, there have been reports claiming they’ve rekindled their romance when they reprised their roles as The Beast and Mystique earlier this year for the prequel’s sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Phew.
7. Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough
These two are workaholics and as much as I hate to admit, it almost seemed inevitable that they would eventually break up. I’m not saying two hard-working people can’t make a long-distance relationship work, but when you throw in the fact that they’re both famous faces, it’s much the deciding factor (I think). The two did have a really good run as their love story lasted from April 2010 to March 2013 — no marriage and no ugly divorce!
6. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder
Well, this must have made the set of Vampire Diaries at least a tiny bit awkward.
The two officially started dating back in 2011 and announced their break-up this past May. Before then, I totally understood why Elena and Damon had so much chemistry and passion on the show; they were a loving pair. Knowing all they’ve been through off-screen, it’s hard to watch them now because how do you go to work everyday and kiss your ex? Maybe if they keep making out on the show, a reunion of some sort will happen and all will be well in the vampire-human world.
5. Taylor Swift and Harry Styles
Who doesn’t love Harry Styles? But, who doesn’t know that Taylor should’ve known Harry was trouble when he walked in?? He reportedly dated so many girls but who could blame him? He’s hot and he’s in One Direction — need I say more?
The couple began dating some time during October 2012 and called it quits the following January following an argument they had while on holiday together in the Caribbean. But hey, maybe they both got some good lyrics out of it — we’re sure Taylor did.
While Taylor is currently single, Harry is reportedly dating Kendall Jenner. We can’t wait to see what will happen between the superstar and reality star in the upcoming year!
4. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
I’ll be honest: when this relationship started, I thought it wasn’t going to go anywhere. Then their relationship blossomed into some Britney Spears-Justin Timberlake next level shit and then I began to have some hope. Two years later, they called it quits.
According to the rumour mill, the end was rocky as their relationship status flipped between on and off faster than any light switch could. Considering they’re both and super hot with have red-hot careers to match that it’s hard to feel that bad for them. I’m sure they’ll both find someone else in due time.
3. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
They were so loving and cute on Khloé and Lamar. Not many celeb relationships last forever, but I thought they would at least get a few more years out of their love, and maybe even a baby for Khloé. Alas, I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. The two got married in September 2009 and though they were rocky since the summer amidst reports of drug abuse and cheating on Lamar’s end, Khloé finally filed for divorce this month even though we all knew it was long over. I mean, seriously, did you hear Lamar’s rap?
2. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Miley and Liam first met while filming The Last Song in June 2009 and after three years together, they announced their engagement in June 2012. Then, it all came crashing down just over a year later when they announced they were officially dunzo. Well, I don’t know if it crashed per se, but Miley always seems to go out with bang.
I won’t lie: I had lots of hope for these two, especially since they managed to keep their relationship on the low for so long. I thought they were in it to win it. Then, Miley decided to dance with foam fingers and well, the rest is history.
1. The Jonas Brothers
It’s not a traditional break-up, being that they weren’t really in a romantic relationship, but that doesn’t change the fact that this was the worst, most devastating, heart-shattering break up of 2013!
Since they began the band back in 2005, they brought us amazing music, a mediocre TV show (sorry but Joe didn’t like it either) and amazing tours. When the Jonas Brothers canceled the release of their new album, their tour and then announced their break-up in October, my heart just couldn’t handle the pain. I still can’t believe it’s all over. At least, they gave usfive new songs to hold on to while we cry a few more tears and hope to wake up from this horrible nightmare. At least they’re “brothers first,” right?
