Timeflies Talks High School Wardrobes And One Too Many Tequila Shots

These days, it seems like it’s not just enough to have talent. You also need some pretty mean social media skills to make it big. The “electro hip hop pop dub-something” duo Timeflies has both.

After meeting as students at Boston’s Tufts University, Timeflies’ Rob “Rez” Resnick and Cal Shapiro won fans quickly and early thanks to their social media prowess. With their sick skills in hand, the band gave the world a good look at their talents with their weekly “Timeflies Tuesday” video series. Like most videos on YouTube, the series wasn’t exactly a shiny, professionally-made effort. But then again, Timeflies’ personal, DIY aesthetic is exactly what makes them so appealing. The band even went on to start their own music label in 2013, Forty8Fifty, just so they could keep continuing to do what they loved without having men in suits tell them how to do it.

With the band’s clever moniker in mind, ANDPOP’s Simon Mohos takes Timeflies down memory lane in this episode of Way Back When. Rez and Cal reveal which band member was the turtle neck king in high school and who was really into shell necklaces. Cal even recalls one memorable (and probably regrettable) encounter with tequila. What happened? Watch the interview to find out!

Timeflies’ new EP Warning Signs is available now!

New videos go up every Monday, Wednesday and Tuesday on ANDPOP.com!
