For those hoping for yet another Spice Girls reunion tour, you may be saddened to learn that Victoria Beckham most likely won’t be apart of it. The pop-star-turned-designer has more or less parted with her Posh Spice alter-ego and whatever remains of her singing career.
“I realised it was finished for good in 2008, when we reformed for our reunion tour [at Madison Square Gardens],” she revealed in the latest issue of French Vogue, which also happens to be the issue she played guest-editor-in-chief.
“It should have been the best moment of my life, but I just wanted to be elsewhere,” she added. “It wasn’t a lack of respect for the girls or the audience, but the passion just wasn’t there. By contrast, in my new career, the passion grows every year. I still want more.”
Beckham also went on blame her alter-ego’s moody demeanour on her initial shyness. “I had to invent a character and I thought of that: staring at people and pouting,” she shared. “My insecurities helped me create the character in a way. Nowadays, it’s like a barrier that comes back whenever I go out in public. That’s the way fame has affected me.”
While her singing career is now more or less officially over (we actually could argue it was done years ago), Beckham still has a lot to work on. In fact, she has won over the elite fashion crowd with her eponymous clothing line which counts celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyoncé and Anne Hathaway as fans. Let’s not forget that she’s the wife of the ever-gorgeous David Beckham and their equally beautiful children, Brooklyn, Harper, Romeo and Cruz.
Now that’s having it all.
