It’s that time of year again where it seems like all your profs and teachers have conspired against you by scheduling all your tests and assignments within the same week. In reality, they probably aren’t and sadly, that’s just the harsh reality of being in school.
Since you’re probably stressed right now, why not take a couple of minutes to relax? Here’s a few handy dandy tips on how you can de-stress and as inspired by your favourite television shows!
Cuddle With Someone
Just like that time Nick Miller from New Girls ended up cuddling with an old Chinese man in the pool, cuddling with someone can actually relieve you of a bit of stress. According to Good Men Project, cuddling helps release oxytocin, a brain chemical that help you perform different functions. It’s often associated with new mothers in labour or breast feeding. So whether it’s with someone you know or a stranger (a bit weird, but whatever floats your boat), get cuddling!
Learn How To Say No
Speaking from personal experience, I get stressed out when I figure out I have too much on my plate. Just to let you know, it’s okay to say “no” to people. You don’t need to do them favours all the time. The next time someone asks you for a “small tiny favour” and you know you have a lot to do, you can just let them know the truth: that you’re too busy to help out. You don’t want to become too overworked like Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation. You might just end up doing something odd, like planning a Sweet Sixteen for a 64-year-old man.
Make Time For Yourself
Step away from the book, and learn how to make time for yourself.
Just relax and forget about that test or assignment for a bit. Whether it’s watching an episode of a TV show or going out for a run, do something that makes you happy. Follow Homer’s example on The Simpsons and just use the time to get your mind off your responsibilities. Try to stick to fun activities that have an actual time limit. We all know as soon as you get on to Tumblr, you won’t get off for the next two hours.
Grab Something To Eat
If there’s a few things we learned from Friends, we know that Joey Tribbiani does not share food and we think he might’ve been onto something! If you’re feeling stressed, just grab something to munch on. Get something healthy, like a banana, for a study break but do try to stop if you find yourself eating emotionally. If you overload on junk food, you might just find yourself in a food coma, which might just stress you out even more.
Have A Dance Party
Why not have a mini dance party in your room? Crank up your favourite song, and dance like no one’s watching. What’s that? You sing into a hairbrush when no one’s looking? We’re totally not judging! (I’ve had my fair share of those moments). Your little dance party will loosen you up, give you energy to keep you working hard. Follow Carly’s example from iCarly with their random dancing. It just looks so much fun!
Talk To Someone
Talking to someone can help you relieve your stress. Throughout the life of Friends, we see the gang relieve their stress just by talking it out with each other. Step outside of your little man-made cave, call up a friend and just talk. Basically, anything that gets your mind off the task that’s stressing you out will help you become a bit more calm. Social interaction will help you relax because you will be doing something you’re enjoying. So what are you waiting for? Go talk to someone!
If all else fails, you can just sleep. Step away from the computer, crawl into bed, and take a quick cat nap. Once you wake up, you’ll feel a bit more refreshed and have energy to tackle that problem you couldn’t solve earlier on. We know how good it feels to sleep, just ask Jake from Adventure Time.
