The holidays in New York City is a magical time.
Although I’ve never experienced it first hand, I used to watch Home Alone 2: Lost in New York so many times as a kid that I have mythologized that time of year. Add Elf and The Miracle on 34th Street to the mix and New York becomes an even more magical place. Someone who would know first hand about the magic that is New York during the holidays would be Brooklyn native Jay-Z, a.k.a. Shawn Carter.
Jay-Z is branching out from his Rocawear line and is teaming up with luxury department store Barneys New York for a holiday capsule collection. And if you thought a collaboration with Jay-Z and Barneys alone was amazing, just wait — there’s more! Jay-Z is commissioning various prestigious designer brands to create exclusive and limited edition products for the holiday capsule collection. I’m talking about partnerships with Acne Studios, Balenciaga, Balmain, Cutler & Gross, En Noir, Just Don, Hoorsenbuhs, Lanvin, Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens, Stutterheim, and The Elder Statesman.
All the products in the collection will be inspired by New York City and will all be in the black, white, gold, and silver colour palette. And if that wasn’t cool enough, 25 percent of the sales will go the the Shawn Carter Foundation, a New York-based scholarship charity, because after all the holidays are all about giving.
