We should be thanking YouTube for giving us the likes of Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen. Yet the video sharing platform is the one that’s giving away the awards. That’s right, there’s going to be a YouTube awards show.
YouTube has announced that they are launching their first ever YouTube Music Awards. The show will take place on Sunday November 3rd at New York City’s Pier 36. The show will be streamed live and will showcase and honour music that YouTubers have made popular.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a music awards show without performances. Eminem, Lady Gaga and Arcade Fire have been confirmed to perform. Performances from Seoul, South Korea, Moscow, London, and Brazil will also be featured, making this award show a truly global experience.
Nominees will be based on the number of views they have on YouTube and will be announced on October 17. This means we, the viewers, have essentially picked out the nominees. If that wasn’t enough, we’ll also be able to vote for who we think should win each category.
To make it even better, the show will be hosted by actor/musician Jason Schwartzman. Now how can you go wrong with that?
