Zac Efron reportedly entered rehab not once but twice this year for his secret cocaine addiction, TMZ reports.
An earlier story by the tabloid news outlet first broke the story on the High School Musical star’s addiction and “discredited” claims that he initially entered rehab for alcohol abuse.
TMZ’s unnamed sources say the 25-year-old had been addicted to cocaine for two years and was also doing Molly (a purer form of Ecstasy) on the side. Efron reportedly entered a rehab facility outside of California for several weeks in March.
He went straight back to Los Angeles to start working again soon after being discharged. Efron reportedly relapsed in April while working on the Seth Rogen film Neighbours (which was first called Townies). Apparently, it was common knowledge that he was using again and he frequently failed to show up on set.
TMZ’s sources claimed he returned to rehab after filming wrapped. They also say there are four reasons why Efron began using: issues with his “controlling” parents, his less than stellar career (his recent live action films failed to become big box office successes), girl issues (not including ex-girlfriend and HSM co-star Vanessa Hudgens) and a bad group of friends.
Neither Efron or his reps have yet to comment on the story.
The actor made an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month in support of his latest film Parkland based 1964 assassination of American president John F. Kennedy. Reports say Efron is currently in good spirits and is healthy and sober.
