Grand Valley State University students wanted to be just like Miley and what does the school’s administration do? They take away their wrecking ball-like sculpture away from their students.
According to Michigan Live, students have been pretending to be just like Miley in her “Wrecking Ball” music video by attempting to swing from on top of the steel ball sculpture—sometimes naked. The sculpture has been a fixture on the university for 18 years but was removed on Tuesday for fears that it may not be stable enough to handle the extra weight of students.
“We really do need to verify the structural integrity right now, and consider the safety ramifications and look whether there’s a better way to install it,” the university’s associate vice president of facilities services, Tim Thimmesch, told the news outlet.
The steel ball has been taken to a storage facility off campus.
Students have been trying to swing on the sculpture for years with attempts to do increasing since the release of Miley’s much-talked-about music video. A parody GVSU Wrecking Ball Twitter account has been created in the wake of its removal.
If anything, can you blame these students? They were handed a joke on a silver
platter ball. Why wouldn’t you take it?
