After weeks of speculating, the rumours have been proven true: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called off their engagement. The news came right in the wake of Miley unfollowing the Australian actor on Twitter.
The two first met on the set of the Nicholas Sparks movie, The Last Song in 2010, and were engaged by May 2012. What looked to be a fairytale year for Miley soured as the reports of the two postponing their wedding surfaced earlier this year and were quickly followed by rumours of fighting and cheating. They last appeared on the red carpet together at the premiere of Liam’s last movie, Paranoia, this past summer.
Busy schedules most likely played a huge role in driving a wedge between the two; Miley has been busy recording and promoting her upcoming album Bangerz while Liam will soon be thrown in the promotional circuit as the premiere of Hunger Games: Catching Fire draws near.
We’ll admit that we’re a little sad that the couple have decided to call off their engagement. Alas, like Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling before them, it doesn’t look like they’ll end up like the Nicholas Sparks movie that first brought them together.
