Thrillers are a love/hate relationship. From all the screaming, arguing and witnessing nice-looking characters go completely berserk over their issues, we just can’t stop ourselves from devouring a good action flick even if it makes us want to pull out our hair in distress.
Summer may be over but there’s no shortage of these kinds of films in the fall. While they are sure to keep you glued to your seat with excitement, I can’t guarantee how long it’ll take for you to recover from intense paranoia.
Here are three stress-inducing thrillers worth checking out!
And you thought Wolverine had a temper? Just wait until you see Hugh Jackman take on the role of a worried father! In Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, Jackman plays Keller Dover, a man who goes to extreme lengths after his daughter and her friend go missing.
Surely every parent will do whatever it takes to protect their children. But by the looks of this trailer, Jackman begins to lose his soul as he takes desperate measures to find the children. So much so, that I’d almost be afraid to approach him in real life after that performance!
The film also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo and Paul Dano. It arrives in theatres on September 20th.
Tom Hanks just can’t seem to get a break. First he was stranded on an island in Cast Away. And now, he’s held hostage on his own ship for his latest role in Captain Phillips.
Based on the true story of Captain Richard Phillips, the Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum) movie dramatizes the 2009 hijacking of an American cargo ship by Somali pirates.
It’s no surprise here that Hanks is already getting attention. Heck, he DID win Oscars for Forrest Gump and Philadelphia. With his amazing ability to transform into any role (although I’ll forgive you for Cloud Atlas), it’ll be interesting to see how he fares in this Oscar-bait story!
The film premieres October 11.
Here are the series of thoughts ran through my mind when I first saw this trailer in the theatres: “Is this movie seriously going to be in space the WHOLE time?! OMG, what is happening?! Forget about ever wanting to go to space!”
Considering just how much one simple trailer made me think in less than two minutes, I knew I had to check this film out despite how stressful the trailer was to watch.
Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, Alfonso Cuarón’s (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) Gravity is a sci-fi thriller that follows a medical engineer and an astronaut as they work together to survive after an accident leaves them floating in space. Of course, I still have doubts about how the film’s going to keep my attention for 90 minutes, but just one look at the special effects makes me feel like the extra dollars it’ll take to watch it in IMAX 3D will be worth it.
The film comes out in theatres on October 4th.
