Movies On Our Radar: The All-Star Cast Edition

Whenever I see a movie trailer with a handful of my favourite actors working together, I start to get chills at the thought of witnessing cinematic genius. From our favourite leading ladies Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep to our Hollywood crushes George Clooney and Benedict Cumberbatch (my personal fave!), it’s like these films are coming out just in time to provide movie geeks the perfect Christmas gift.

Here are some films and their amazing cast of actors you should keep an eye out for.

August: Osage County

With an all-star ensemble featuring the likes of Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor and Juliette Lewis, August: Osage County takes a look at the lives of women whose paths have separated until a family tragedy brings them back to their childhood home and to the mother (played by a fabulously sassy Streep) who raised them. This film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name by Tracy Letts. With Academy favourites Streep and Roberts headlining, we’re sure watching this film is going to be one heck of an emotional whirlwind.

P.S. Can I just say that I was already signed up for this when I saw Benedict Cumberbatch? This man can do no wrong!

The film comes out December 25th.

American Hustle

If there’s one thing  for certain: David O. Russell sure knows how to pick his actors. In his new film American Hustle, the movie has Christian Bale portraying a con man forced to help a federal agent (Bradley Cooper) turn against other cons, mobsters and politicians.

Having helped Jennifer Lawrence and Bale win Oscars while providing Academy-nominated performances to the likes of Amy Adams and Cooper, Russell looks to be ON FIRE once again.  With all four of these actors returning to work with Russell, I’d be lying if I said this didn’t look like an unstoppable cast.

P.S. Give Amy Adams that Oscar already!!

The film comes out December 25th.

The Monuments Men

Say what you will about George Clooney. But as swoon-worthy as he is, one can’t deny that he has the acting, writing and directing chops to back his A-list status up.

In the upcoming The Monuments Men, Clooney is the co-writer, director and star of this historically-based adventure film that surrounds a crew of art historians and museum curators recovering famous pieces of art stolen by the Nazis before Adolf Hitler destroys them.

While based on true events, this movie that also stars Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Jean Dujardin looks like an absolute blast. While the tone definitely seems serious, you can tell it isn’t without its funny moments. If the last scene in the trailer is any indication of this movie’s quirks and quips, then you can probably turn to comedic greats like Murray and John Goodman to provide some charm.

P.S. Doesn’t the tone of this film sorta remind you of a mix between Inglorious Basterds, Ocean’s 11 and a little bit of Argo?

The film comes out December 18th.
