It’s weird to think there was stuff to do on the Internet before the birth of Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Youtube, and Neopets.
In this video, The Jamison family tries to fill you in on how to surf the ‘net. They try to answer questions like “What’s the World Wide Web?”, “What can I do on the internet?”, and “E-mail? What’s e-mail?” This makes me nostalgic, but also happy we have come a long long way since then.
The family even tries to show you how to keep those kids away from more, ahem, inappropriate websites. It’s a good thing they don’t know what Tumblr is also full (outside of cat GIFs and fandoms) of because that just might break their brains.
Dear Jamisons family,
Tumblr may be lethal and impossible to leave, but it is a beautiful invention and we will never let you take it away from us. Ever. Also, nobody uses Internet Explorer anymore, and nobody even knows what Netscape is. At least, I don’t.
Jokes aside, these people are on to something. DO back up everything on your computer, and DO get someone else to hook everything up for you, because in reality, you will mess it up.
If you are put off by the fact this video is 27 minutes, well, that just shows you how far the internet has come and how much smaller our attention spans are. Anything that takes more than three minutes to watch or read is avoided like the plague. Though, I think we are a lot smart now to be honest. Kitties. Purr. Meow. Zayn Malik in heels. Liam Payne’s biceps. Yes, its a brave new world now.
SIDENOTE: I hate the theme from kids guide to the internet for being so catchy…I will probably be found singing “you’re goin’ surfin’ on the internet every time I open my browser. Apologies in advance for family, friends, co-workers, and more.
