Petition Wants “Party in the U.S.A’ to be New National Anthem

Not sure if I’m being punk’d or if this is real life.

An online petition on the White House’s “We the People” petitions site is asking President Barack Obama to change the American national anthem to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.”

While it’s clear that the “Star-Spangled Banner” is the more well-known song, the popularity of “Party in the U.S.A.” shouldn’t be scoffed at. ¬†According to Mashable, it is the 23rd most-watched video on YouTube sitting behind the likes of Psy and Justin Bieber.

The petition currently sits at 350 signatures and needs 99,650 signatures for the White House staff to review it, send it to policy experts and provide a response to the supporters.

Somehow, I don’t think this will pass.

But as the petitioner puts it, making Miley’s song the national anthem is “what is best for this country.”
