Reliving the true events seen in Sofia Coppola’s latest film The Bling Ring may not have been fun for celebrity victims such as Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Orlando Bloom and Rachel Bilson.
Having had thousands of dollars in jewelry and other items stolen from her by a group of Los Angeles teenagers who robbed the houses of celebrities in 2008 and 2009, Rachel Bilson particularly, finds it strange to base a movie on crimes that affected a so many.
“”I thought it was weird to glorify something that was so upsetting for a lot people,”Bilson told the UK edition of Cosmopolitan. ”It’s important to detach from material things, but the special, personal things I lost are hard to forget.”
Of course Bilson may have taken this a lot harder than others. In real life, Bling Ring member Rachel Lee apparently defecated in the actress’ washroom during a break-in. Thankfully, that scene was not portrayed in The Bling Ring.
“We were in Rachel [Bilson's] bathroom and Rachel just had to go, so she just … yeah. I remember the incident so well,” fellow Bling Ringer Nick Prugo revealed to Vanity Fair reporter Nancy Jo Sales. “I can recall the smell, which is really nasty, disgusting.”
Yikes! Well knowing that Bilson lost (and received) more than she wanted, I can totally understand why she feels that way. However, I don’t think the film necessarily glorifies the crimes. Movies and entertainment are really up to the viewer’s interpretation.
