Criss has played at numerous clubs and events, but this will mark his first ever solo tour. He has also teased that an upcoming solo album is also in the works. It’s a lot for Criss and his fans to get excited about.
Asides from the numerous and well-received covers he’s done for Glee, Criss already has an EP titled Human under his belt. He has also written music for his musical theatre company, Starkid, which he helped found while in university with friends. In addition, he told his fans in an exclusive video that he has old music and new music ready for the summer. With his long repertoire, he has a lot of material to choose from when building his set list for his “Listen Up” tour.
Since a set-list has yet to be released, we thought we’d help Criss out and decide what songs we want to hear this summer!
DREAM “LISTEN UP” SET LIST:
Part of Your World
Before Criss’ career took off with Glee, he was a curly haired young man who spent his time singing Disney songs. This Little Mermaid song is his staple, and he’s performed it at almost all of his concerts. It seems only natural that he would kick off his concert with this tune, as both he and his fans have such a special connection to it.
After performing a song that the audience knows and loves, it would be the perfect chance for Criss to showcase one of his new songs from his upcoming album. An upbeat song would be perfect, because that would get the audience pumped for his new record.
Against All Odds
While Criss tends to perform his own acoustic arrangement of “Teenage Dream,” he can change it up this time around. While the Katy Perry song marked the beginning of his wild ride on Glee, the Phil Collins song he performed during the current season would make a statement. Wrapping up the show’s fourth season, he’s embarking on a new chapter in his life. This song seems fitting as Criss is about to embark on his first solo tour.
Back To Black (Amy Winehouse cover)
Criss is best known for putting his own unique spin on songs originally sung by women. He’s performed “Teenage Dream,” “Valerie,” and recently a rendition of “Call Me Maybe”. For this tour, Criss could tackle Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black.” Not only has the song been revived thanks to Beyoncé’s The Great Gatsby soundtrack cover, but it’ll showcase his soulful voice and ability to rearrange a song to make it his own.
Criss can’t have a concert without performing a number from a Starkid show.”Stutter” from A Very Potter Sequel is a number that his character HARRY FREAKIN’ POTTER doesn’t perform in the show, so it’s a perfect song for him to perform and make his own. It’s upbeat and bound to get his audience excited.
New Song – Ballad
Since “Stutter” is a classic Starkid number and one that he wrote way back when, it would be the perfect time to perform a brand new song right after. This should preferably a ballad, so that the audience can feel the heart of the upcoming album.
Ma Belle Evangeline
Being the total Disney nerd he is, Criss is bound to cover more than one Disney tune, preferably a more recent Disney song – why not one from Princess and the Frog?
Seeing as he sang Imagine Dragon’s “It’s Time” on Glee, it would be interesting to hear a medley of indie songs in the concert. The medley could feature “It’s Time,” Mice and Men’s “Little Talks,” and “1901” by Pheonix.
This song from Starkid’s A Very Potter Senior Year is very appropriate for his transition into his solo work and the concerts coming to a close.
This is another one of those songs that have become Criss’ staple. This song appears in both Human and A Very Potter Musical and he has performed it in his concerts and at numerous events, including Trevor Live. The lyrics are so beautiful and touching. This ballad is definitely the perfect number to close his show with.
