It’s time to be honest and admit that we have always been fangirls. We have been watching TV since we were three. We sang the Barney theme song the same way we now sing the theme song for The Big Bang Theory. We have ALWAYS been nerds—we just need to embrace it. I, for one, have memorized all the lyrics for the cartoons I watched growing up—especially those on the Family Channel. If you didn’t scream out “Wade, what’ the sitch?” at the end of the Kim Possible opening, I don’t know you. Remember how Christina Milan covered the theme song? Remember how it was a total sham because we all know it was and remains Christie Carlson Romano’s song?
How about when the Backstreet Boys sang the Arthur theme song? Who can ever forget that. The point is, we will always remember these theme songs. Even if you haven’t seen one of these cartoons in ages — I’m talking Braceface — chances are, you will still sing along.
It’s funny thinking about how celebrities sang the themes for a lot of these (remember how Solange Knowles sang the theme for Proud Family). I hope, that like myself, the opening credits to all these cartoons of our past and present hit you with a wave of nostalgia, and make you sing along the way.
