Welcome to the New Year everybody!! Here’s hoping 2013 will be just as fashionable as 2012! And here are the five celebs who will usher us into the new year of fashion and style!
What she’s wearing: T-Swift rocked ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest’ in Time Square wearing a flashy red sequined IRO jacket, black YSL leather pants, and Jimmy Choo boots.
Why we love it: After failing to take the top spot on our Best Dressed list for 2012 last week, Swift is coming out of the gate swinging this week in this glam rock look. The red sequined jacket reminds me of Michael Jackson’s iconic red leather jacket but with a flashy new twist. This is a different look for Swift who usually is very ethereal or retro-chic, and I love it! I usually joke around with my friends that Swift is a unicorn incarnate, but I eat my words with this outfit!
I couldn’t resist re-posting this.
Takeaway: Don’t have a New Year’s resolution? Why not try to be more adventurous with your fashions! The new year is the perfect time for a new look and to venture outside your box. While the sequin red jacket is perfect for the stage, it might be too much for the streets. But opting for a red leather jacket will create the same effect– remember leather is on trend!
Carly Rae Jepsen
What she’s wearing: Ms. Jepsen also preformed at ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest’ in N.Y.C. sporting a black velvet and sheer crop top and a red tulle Sachin + Babi maxi skirt with appliqués.
Why we love it: Another new look that we haven’t seen before from the pop-star. I love how she’s playing with proportions and volume. Also Jepsen tweeted she’s wearing long johns underneath her skirt which sort of makes me love this outfit even more despite the long johns not being visible.
Takeaway: We’re in the midst of winter so it’s important to keep warm despite our fashion choices. I don’t know about you but the amount of girls I saw in mini-skirts freezing while waiting forever in line outside a club on New Year’s Eve was really depressing. So be smart and always have a strategy to keep warm!
What she’s wearing: Supermodel Kerr is usually snapped walking the Victoria Secret Runway but here she is getting snapped in the produce aisle at a Whole Foods in West Hollywood, CA in a sunny Stella McCartney blazer, a blue floral Erdem top, and a white Rag + Bone miniskirt.
Why we love it: Doesn’t this outfit make you want to reconsider your grocery shopping attire? I think after this we will all need to step up our game. (And besides a friend of mine says that the grocery store is the best place to meet people, so it’s probably in our best interest to look our best since you might just meet your soul mate in the frozen food section). Anyways I love how bright and sunny Kerr looks in this dress, perhaps she’s channeling the summer from her native Australia, either way this brightens up my day. Also I think it’s hilarious that despite Kerr’s efforts to go incognito in her tortoise shell Stella McCartney shades, the paparazzi still managed to find her.
Takeaway: Feeling the winter blues? I feel ya! But sometimes wearing bright colours can brighten our day and take us out of our dead of winter slump. So don’t be afraid to wear a bright and bold colour even if it’s not a Fall/Winter appropriate. If someone hassles you just tell them that it’s summer somewhere in the world!
Austin Butler & Vanessa Hudgens
What they’re wearing: Actress Vanessa Hudgens was photographed headed for church with her beau Austin Butler of the upcoming ‘The Carrie Diaries’ in Hollywood. Hudgens wore red flowing dress accessorized with a black chunky knit scarf and wooden platform heels, while Butler wore a black leather jacket, a blue button-down, navy pants, and brown desert boots.
Why we love it: It’s always nice when a couple can make the best dressed list together. It’s also nice that these two aren’t one of those annoying couples that don’t dress alike or wear matching outfits. These two are opposites, Hudgens is free and flowing in a bright bold colour, while Butler is tough and tailored in a leather jacket and slim fit pants. Hudgens is a modern hippie as you can usually find her rocking the boho-chic look, but this dress is one of her best picks as it is simple and stunning. She pairs it with a chunky knit scarf to add texture and a contrast colour. Butler looks casual and cool but still put-togethered in his outfit, he works the monotone colour scheme but adds a pop of black and brown, two neutral colours that work with almost everything. Both actors wear shades to remind us that they are in bright and sunny California.
Takeaway: Relationships are a compromise but you don’t have to compromise your individual styles. Don’t be one of those matchy-matchy couples because that just looks like you’re showing off to us single folk, but also because you don’t want to ever lose your individual identity either. But if your significant other does lack in the personal style department, don’t hijack their wardrobe! Be considerate and offer your sartorial advice and let it take its time. If you overhaul their wardrobe overnight, they might just hold it against you later on.
