You can’t judge a movie by the trailer — especially one by Baz Luhrmann — but from what I’ve seen of his forthcoming film The Great Gatsby I’m pretty excited. The second trailer was released today (we saw the first one back in May) and it captures the glitz and glamour of the 1920s.
Leonardo DiCaprio steals the spotlight as Jay Gatsby telling Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire): “I will tell you God’s truth. God’s truth about myself. I am the son of some very wealthy people, sadly they’re all dead now.” He goes on about his extravagant lifestyle and riches. As we’re given a glimpse into the very Moulin Rouge!-esque parties that Jay hosts, Carraway says eerily: “He had an extraordinary sense of hope. But I had the uneasy feeling that he was guarding secrets.”
The film looks visually stunning and the soundtrack, while not period specific, includes Kanye West and Florence + the Machine. It’s set to hit theatres on May 10. Are you going to see it?
