This September, a 10-year-old boy named James G. Groccia wrote a letter to LEGO articulating his love for the company. James, who has Asperger’s syndrome, told LEGO that their products help him develop social skills. This lovely sentiment was followed by a completely crushed heart of James — his true dreams of owning an Emerald Night set could never be fulfilled because it was no longer in stores. In the letter, James politely asks the company if they have anymore Emerald Night sets hidden away in their headquarters. I’m so glad James wrote this letter, because what followed literally made his dreams come true.
Not only did LEGO mail an Emerald Night set to James, but they wrote him a letter as well. The look on James’ face when he opens the package is literally one of the most heart warming things I have seen lately. Seeing the joy on his face gives me a whole new outlook on LEGO. Who knew the toy had such a profound effect on children?
