What she’s wearing: K-Stew busted out a Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2013 romper to promote the final Twilight movie in Tokyo, Japan.
Why we love it: This look is fresh off the Paris Fashion Week and I couldn’t be more stoked that Stewart chose to wear this look. Stewart is finally coming into her own red carpet style and leaving her naysayers in the dust. The black and white checks is a cool design feature that feels refreshing due to the simplicity and large size of the pattern. Also it’s a romper which makes it all the more fun. The outfit looks very mod but still modern.
Takeaway: Designers are giving a fashion twist to plaids and checkered patterns so be on the lookout for some funkier versions of these everyday patterns. Also opting for a black and white look can be a very safe choice, so do black and white in a cool pattern that keeps the look modern.
What she’s wearing: Posh Spice was spotted out and about in New York City in a Comme des Garçons floral print blouse and J Brand high-waist bell bottom jeans.
Why we love it: We all know that Ms. Beckham can pull off a skin-tight mini dress like no other, so it’s always nice to see her in pants, separates, and prints. Her floral blouse is in a nice brown that pops with bright reds and yellows. Also Beckham just oozes fashion that she manages to make these high-waisted bell bottom jeans high fashionable and not mom-jeany (sorry Anne Hathaway).
Takeaway: High-waisted jeans are not for everybody so if you are self-conscious about your derrière or your tummy you might want to stay away. However bell bottom or flare jeans are actually flattering to most body types so they are a safer bet when you want to change up the types of jeans you wear.
Adam Levine and PJ Morton (Maroon 5)
What they’re wearing: Lead singer Levine opted for a back on black plaid suit with a grey button down shirt, while his band mate Morton chose separates: blue trousers, grey jacket, and white printed button down shirt. Both attended the GQ Gentlemen’s Ball in New York City.
Why we love it: Levine’s black on black plaid suit is a really cool but very subtle so it just goes to show how the little details can make a look. Otherwise his look would be pretty simple and shall I say boring. The new Maroon 5 pianist, Morton, livened things up with a pop of colour and print. His look was a nice change from the more typical suits seen at this event.
Takeaway: Subtle prints are a great choice to add some flare to a simple suit. Whether it’s a monochromatic print or a miniscule repetitive pattern. Also pops of dark colours can make you stand out while still looking very masculine.
Alexa Chung and Jennifer Hudson
What they’re wearing: OK so you’re getting two for one again because Chung and Hudson attended the same event, the opening of a new Versace boutique in SOHO New York City, and because they are wearing similar styles: leather skirts and a turtleneck sweater, all Versace of course.
Why we love it: Monochromatic looks are on-trend and both stars pull off these trends well because they mix different fabrics within the same hue, Chung in oxblood and Hudson in black. I prefer Chung’s skintight leather mini with front zipper detail, but I prefer Hudson’s black sheer turtleneck which subtlety, yet tastefully, shows off her bra. Take note that both stars chose jackets in a different but complimentary colour, Chung’s jacket in a deep navy while Hudson’s jacket pops in electric orange.
Takeaway: Monochromatic looks work best when you mix different types of fabrics together in the same hue so you don’t look matchy-matchy but still put-together. Different fabrics help to break up the look so you don’t look like just one giant blob of a colour.
