WKBT anchor Jennifer Livingston briefly paused yesterday’s newscast to address a recent email she received from a
viewer bully complaining about her weight. The letter complained that Livingston’s weight was not setting a good example for “the community’s young people” and that she’s not a suitable candidate to be an on-air personality.
Livingston’s response was beautifully articulated and she turned it into something positive, by encouraging others to recognize October as National Anti-Bullying Month.
She said: “I will never be able to thank you enough for your words of support, and for taking a stand against this bully. We are better than that email. We are better than the bullies that will try to take us down.”
We’re really inspired by her message, which has since gone viral, even getting a tweet from Ellen Degeneres. Her message is not just for people who are bullied about their weight but for those who are taunted for a variety of things, whether it’s race, disabilities, acne — whatever.
Watch her message and pass it on! We want everyone to see this one.
