Although I’m growing tired of silly parodies of Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” I absolutely love this cover because (surprise) it actually does SOMETHING DIFFERENT to the song. Instead of just copying the music video, Berkeley’s Ra-On produced a slower, bluesey cover of the track.
Their version actually sounds soulful! The track, which was arranged by Seungjun Lee, features Michael Jun on the guitar and Jaydee Min, singing with Elle Kim. I wish they emphasized a little more of the “oppa” part but I still love it. I can imagine them performing in some after hours, smoke-filled piano bar.
Ra-On is a student organization at Berkeley University, meant to gather musicians who are interested in Korean rock music.
