If you’re the major fashion fanatic we think you are, then you know this past week has been INSANE, what with New York Fashion Week, Fashion’s Night Out, the MTV Video Music Awards, the Toronto Film Festival and more. It’s fashion overload and we love it! If you want to check out some of the best looks from the MTV VMAs, take a look here. As for the rest, here we go!

Emma Watson

What she wore: The British actress showed up in this sleeveless black and blue-embroidered floral peplum Erdem dress at the TIFF premiere of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Why we love it: This look proves florals aren’t just for spring and summer and can work into the fall season as well. The embroidered floral detail pop off this white mini is on trend with its hints of cobalt — a major colour for the fall season. The lace yoke (the part of the dress at the collarbone and shoulders) is also on trend for the fall, so expect to see lace yokes in a lot of upcoming looks.

Takeaway: Invest in cobalt pieces for your wardrobe. This hue has been popular for a while now but is making a huge splash in the fall runway season. If you’re not a fan of showing cleavage, then lace or sheer yokes are a good fashion technique to keep covered while not looking too demure.

Nina Dobrev

What she wore: The Canadian actress wore a stunning red Reem Acra cocktail dress to the LA premiere of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Why we love it: The vibrant red-orange colour is a surefire way to stand out. Unlike her co-star Emma Watson’s dress at the TIFF premiere, this dress shows off Dobrev’s cleavage while still working in the embroidered lace detail in the sleeves. This dress manages to mix two trends, lace and cutouts, in a fun and stylish way.

Takeaway: If you’re not a fan of long-sleeve dresses (because let’s be honest sometimes long-sleeve dresses look older) using cutouts, lace, or other sheer fabrics keeps things youthful while getting to show some skin in a fun and strategic way.

Ashley Benson

What she wore: The Pretty Little Liars star was spotted in a bone white Cacharel dress on the red carpet for her movie Spring Breakers at the Venice Film Festival.

Why we love it: Benson is getting a chance to show off her fashion chops for her new movie alongside co-stars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens. But while her co-stars are going more ornate in their dress choices, Benson is keeping things simple and classic and standing out on her own because of it. The off-the shoulder aspect of the dress shows some much needed skin and keeps this dress from going the matronly route.

Takeaway: Sometimes solid neutral colours don’t get much play on the red carpet, but keeping things simple and clean can be a good way too stand out when everyone else is opting for prints, patterns, or crazy textiles and fabrics.

Tyler Posey

What he’s wearing: The Teen Wolf star arrived at the 2012 VMAs in a Hugo Boss pant and jacket paired with a graphic tee and sneakers.

Why we love it: Because we know most guys like to mix the dressed-up and the dressed-down looks together. Posey pulls that combo off for the VMAs.

Takeaway: Tailored clothing is key, and the two-buttoned slim-fit jacket keeps this look on trend. Just plopping on any blazer or jacket over a graphic tee won’t do on it’s own, so you gotta make sure the jacket is tailored and fits your torso. Otherwise you might look like a little boy trying on his dad’s jacket!

Kristen Stewart

What she’s wearing: K-Stew mixed an A.L.C. cropped wool pant with a white Balenciaga button-down shirt at the screening of On the Road in New York, and a long-sleeved lace with floral details Zuhair Murad dress at the movie’s TIFF premiere.

Why we love: This girl has officially stepped up her game and I’m not complaining one bit, hence why I chose two looks instead of one. The New York look is simple, chic, and effortless — perfect for Stewart who likes to keep things casual. It’s a polished version of the pant and blouse combo that is perfect for a daytime look. Stewart then turned heads in Toronto in this lace floral stunner! K-Stew skipped out on the VMAs for obvious reasons but managed to still up some of the best looks that were seen at the VMAs. The dress is on-trend with the lace and pops with the colourful floral details.

Takeaway: When you’re the centre of negative media attention, distract their focus by dressing to kill. Stewart is getting positive attention for her polished and fashionable looks and silencing her naysayers while doing so. Also, less is more when it comes to accessorizing. When your look is strong on its own it’s best not to overdo it on the accessories.
