TRENDS: Trippy tie-dye and bold undercuts

Trend: Tie-dye

Fashion works in cycles, so it’s no small wonder why this 90s trend is making a comeback. This time, though, it’s not all about baggy fluorescent T-shirts, unless you want it to be. Now, colour palettes are on the softer side as pastels are mixed together on just about everything — T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, etc. Tie dye also works as a great Pinterest-y, DIY project with friends and is on the wallet friendly side.

Undercuts

I’ve been waiting to get undercut for almost a year now, ever since I saw a photo of a woman with a pixie cut with a partial undercut on The Sartorialist. I’ll be chopping off my tresses soon since I’ve already taken my grad photos and my hair’s finally long enough to donate. Though I may not go the Cassie route with the half-head shave, it’s still nice to see other celebs try out the risky hair style with both long and short hair. The likes of Rihanna, Willow Smith and Ellie Goulding make my conviction even stronger and show the world that a shaved head (even if partially) can still be beautiful.

WTF?: platform flip flops

I cringe every time I see someone wearing these because for me, platform flip flops are to summer what Uggs are to winter. They may be comfy, but they are ugly and you can ALWAYS do better. Even if you find a semi-cute pair at Victoria’s Secret, they still look like a mess of foam on your feet. And you’ll rack up more tacky points if they have leopard print on them. You can find a pair of leather strappy sandals for a reasonable price at most shoe stores, made even more reasonable with summer sales.
