Green Lantern is back — brave, mighty and gay!
DC Comics finally revealed that the rebooted version of Green Lantern’s Alan Scott will be gay. In his prior life, he was married with two superhero kids (in an alternate universe) but now he’s back as an unmarried, media mogul.
Writer James Robinson told New York Post: “He’s very much the character he was. He’s still the pinnacle of bravery and idealism. He’s also gay.”
However, not everyone is thrilled with the news. One Million Moms (leave it to the parents of America) released a statement saying: ”Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models? They don’t but do want to indoctrinate impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light.”
Umm… maybe so that comic books are a better reflection of the world we live in? Maybe so young gay kids will have a positive role model they can relate to?
Likely as a reaction, Robinson told USA Today: “He’s someone you would want to watch over your children. Presenting that kind of heroic role model in a positive light for people will be a good thing and help to show gays in a positive light for people who might be a little more small-minded.”
