Although I haven’t read any of The Carries Diaries, I’ve read and watched Sex and the City in it’s entirety. I know, groan right? Deal with it. Anyway, I’ve secretly been looking forward to CW’s new series The Carries Diaries, based on Candace Bushnell’s prequel to original book. Based on the trailer though, I can’t say I’m thrilled at Carrie before sex, the city and Mr. Big.
I like AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie and the fashion (even sans Patricia Field) looks drool-worthy. But the plot seems uber stereotypical. Carrie accepts an internship at a prestigious law firm. Upon meeting a stylish magazine editor she’s immersed in the world of urban culture and clubs.
It’s all, Carrie goes to Manhattan, meets a wicked-cool fashionista, gets sent a free high couture gown, goes to a high profile event. I’m sure hilarious hijinks ensue but this would never happen in real life.
Why not try reality: Carrie goes to Manhattan, scrapes by in a tiny house which shares with a bunch of other interns, does coffee runs ALL DAY, and scrapes together a few bucks for a non-alcoholic Cosmo (she’s way underage). I think that’s a much more interesting storyline anyway rather than the excessive glitz. All I can say is, I think HBO’s version would have been a little different.
