One Direction isn’t the next Beatles, Paul McCartney says

Posted on March 30, 2012 by

One Direction has definitely surpassed the requisites to achieve boy band legend status. Millions of Twitter followers: check. Number one album: check. Flashed by girls: check. Stalked: check, check, check.

But according to Paul McCartney, they haven’t achieved the success experienced by the Beatles… yet, at least.

“There are so many bands who all get called ‘the next Beatles.’ Suddenly it puts an awful lot of pressure on them to be the next Beatles,” he said on ITV’s Daybreak.

He added:”Oasis were ‘the next Beatles’ once if you remember. It’s a pressure, because suddenly you’ve got to live up to all the things that we did, and it was a different time. So let’s just call them ‘the next terrific band.'”

Do you agree or disagree? You’ll remember it wasn’t too long ago andPOP made the Beatles’ comparison in our interview with the guys. [Source]

This is a TOTALLY INACCURATE report. McCartney did not say they haven’t achieved enough success. He said it puts too much pressure on any band to be called “the next Beatles.” He said let them be successful on their own terms. Why create controversy where there is none? Sloppy reporting.
