Russell Brand didn’t spend too long at the police station on Thursday afternoon after pulling a Chris Brown. He was accused of grabbing a photographer’s iPhone and tossing it through the window of a downtown law office.
The police put a warrant out for his arrest and soon after Brand turned himself into the New Orleans Sheriff’s office and was booked on two misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property valued at $700.
The British comedian didn’t spend too long in jail though, as he posted the $5000 bail and agreed to pay for repairs to the phone. So basically buy a new phone.
According to TMZ, Brand understandably got upset at the photographer who was taking pictures on his iPhone, inspiring him to chuck it through the window. True, that’s a little extreme, but I understand how it could happen in a heated moment.
I think Brand handled the situation pretty well by turning himself in and posting a lighthearted explanation on Twitter. He responded to the news by tweeting: ”Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory.” [TMZ]
