The big question for Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries after their marriage fail is what to do with all those shiny, new wedding gifts. That means the media has erupted into a pointless “he said, she said” war. We’re not keeping score or anything but here’s the tally so far:
Kim versus the Hump
Kim: TMZ is reporting that Kim sent a letter to her guests telling them she donated double the value of every gift received to the Dream Foundation. The exact value? $200,000.
Score: Kim gets one point for the nice sentiment. Most of her guests are filthy rich and can afford to have her keep the gifts and donate the value of them to charity. But she gets one point taken away for form. I’m not sure what the protocol is, but I think most guests would appreciate having the option of getting their “fairytale” gift back before she decided to keep them.
Kris: Kris thinks it’s great Kim donated the money but that she should give the gifts back. What do you really do with a $1000 juicer anyway?
Score: Kris gets one points for thinking of his guests and one point taken away for going against his word. Apparently the NBA star kept some swag of his own: a $5000 gift card to YSL from Kim’s bestie Jonathan Cheban.
Tally? 0 points for both! Seriously guys! You were married for 72 days, the biggest question shouldn’t be what to do with your gifts, it should be why did you get married in the first place?
But if we really want to get into it, Lizzy Post, author of the most recent edition of Emily Post’s Etiquette told New York Daily News: “The rule of thumb is if the marriage ends after just six months, you should return the unused gifts,” she stated. “After just 72 days, the gifts must be returned to the wedding guest.”
