Universal Music Group is re-releasing the classic Rolling Stones’ album Exile on Main Street with 10 never-before-heard tracks, reports rollingstone.com. New songs on the album include “Plundered My Soul,” “Dancing in the Light,” “Following the River,” and “Pass the Wine,” as well as alternate versions of “Soul Survivor” and “Loving Cup.”
“I went back in the archives and dug out a lot of things,” lead singer Mick Jagger told Rolling Stone Magazine. “I added some percussion and some vocals. Keith put guitar on one or two.”
Jagger wrote new lyrics for “Following the River,” but aside from some other small song revisions, “I really wanted to leave them pretty much as they were,” said Keith Richards. “I didn’t want to interfere with the Bible, you know. They still had that great basement sound.”
A deluxe edition of the album’s re-release will also include Stones in Exile, a documentary that follows the making of Exile, as well as footage from Cocksucker Blues and Ladies and Gentlemen… the Rolling Stones. After recently watching the Exile film for the first time, Richards said, “I must not have noticed all the cameramen while I was making the record. I was amazed at how much footage they actually found.”
Exile on Main Street will be sold as a CD featuring the original 18 tracks, as well as in the deluxe CD edition that also hold the 10 never-heard-before songs. The super deluxe package will also include the 30-minute documentary DVD, vinyl and a 50-page collector’s book with photographs from the Exile years.
