Flight of the Conchords Ends On A High Note
After just two hilarious seasons, Flight of the Conchords is ending its television run.
In an announcement on their website, Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement informed fans they would not be going ahead with production of the third season of the HBO television series, one that garnered them two Emmy nominations earlier this year.
“We’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season,” the post read. “We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it.”
“While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.’’
The two have not publicly discussed any more plans for the future, even as far as music. Their two LPs that spun off the TV series began as underground hits before taking off to mainstream popularity (The Distant Future won a Grammy in 2008 for Best comedy album.)
But the decision to send Flight of the Conchords out on top will likely lend itself to a broad clamouring for more from fans and critics alike.
