GLADD Defends Adam Lambert

Posted by Vanessa Baker on December 7th, 2009

Adam LampertThe Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation claims ABC is treating Adam Lambert with a double standard, reports E! News.

Following the former American Idol contestant’s controversial performance at the American Music Awards, the network announced it was cancelling three upcoming performances by Lambert. He will not appear as scheduled on Jimmy Kimmel Live or Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve because the network claims his performance at the American Music Awards differed greatly from what was rehearsed. However, Lambert will be performing on The View and will be named one of Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2009.

“We appreciate ABC’s commitment to gay and transgender inclusion in other programming,” said Jarrett Barrios, president of GLAAD. “However, let us be clear that GLAAD remains steadfast in our assertion that Adam Lambert is being subjected to a double standard by ABC as an openly gay performer. We do not support ABC cancelling Adam Lambert’s past and future performances. We urge the community to reach out to ABC and express their concerns that Adam Lambert is being subjected to a double standard.”

Lambert has admitted that his performance may have crossed a line.

    GLAAD is defending ADAM?
    yeah right!

    Give me a break…

  • http://musesoftheamusedornot.blogspot.com/ Jades

GLAAD is not defending Adam they are cow towing to ABC once again. I have seen more simulated sex on Dancing with the Stars than in the AMA performance. Give us a break ABC is showing it’s true colors and this STRAIGHT Women has blocked them on my remote. I will not be watching ABC except videos of Adams performances on YouTube. The only thing ABC will understand is that their advertisers will not be seen by viewers.

  • Swordfish

ABC is banned from my house. Their stance on Adam Lambert being to scary or worried about what he will do is ridiculous. They are actually pulling this guy down and stalling his career. His music should be all over the radio right now. Glamberts need to call in the radio stations and ask them to play his music. Adam is all over TV and on radio shows. He has Larry King on 10 Dec and that is why he can’t be on the view live. He is on teh America’s Democratic Legacy Award Dinner tonight performing the National Anthem. They are honoring Steven Spielberg!!!!!!!! Adam was hand picked to sing. How come there isn’t any press on that? He is co-hosting the Y100 Jingleball with Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) on Dec 12. So ABC can go hold their homophobic selves.

Gay or straight, someone grinding his or her face into the nether regions of another person on network television is unacceptable. I don’t want to see Britney and Madonna making out. I don’t want to see 2 guys making out. I don’t want to see a man and woman making out on television. Save it for the bedroom. You don’t need sexually charged shock value to have a great performance. What happened to the days of MUSIC being the entertainment, and not all the glitz and glam fillers? Nowadays, it’s all about how much skin someone shows, or how much they shake their ashes. I miss the days of quality music. No one seems to care about it anymore, though, which is sad…
