THREE key reasons why season 3 is already failing:
1. Lack of promotion. There were several short promos, but let's face it, they were boring and misleading. They didn't even bank on a sexy Chuck and Blair promo. Then again, how could they when the show is basically G-rated?
2. Writers' loss of sanity plus producers' lack of intervention. It began around 2x15, and got progressively worse as season 2 went on. Some recovery was made in 2x25, but they didn't capitalize on it in season 3.
3. No longer fun to watch. Admit it, the premiere was contrived, boring, cut up, and skippy, with plenty of awkward moments to go around. The dialogue didn't make sense half of the time. "We could never be boring." "You say that, but I know you, you're Chuck Bass." To me, it was like they were spewing out random words. Meanwhile, it felt like the writers were lecturing us. Also, the leads didn't seem too committed to their roles, especially Lively, and it sucked the fun right out of it. Ed Westwick looked like he was afraid to touch Leighton Meester and actually embrace her. Tender moments were cut too short. Why, I don't know, but it made for weak chemistry. Overall, a great disappointment.
