Michael Jackson Tribute Album in the Works

Posted by Vanessa Baker on August 8th, 2009

michael-jackson-thrillerMadonna, Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Robbie Williams are just a few of the superstars planning to record numbers for an upcoming Michael Jackson tribute album, reports the Daily Star. Whitney Houston, Usher and 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi of Britain’s Got Talent will also reportedly be featured alongside legends like Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and Lionel Richie.

“The idea came from the memorial concert,” said a source. “Many fans asked if cover versions would be released and it seemed a wonderful idea. Some of the biggest stars in the world have indicated they’d like to take part to pay their own respects and tribute to the King of Pop. This cover album is sure to be a massive worldwide hit with fans and could raise a fortune for Michael’s favourite charities.”

Jafargholi, who performed “Who’s Loving You” at the memorial held for Jackson in Los Angeles, will record that track, as well as the song “Ben.” Carey will be singing “I’ll Be There,” while Williams will perform “Man in the Mirror.”

Williams said his new studio album will also pay tribute to the late pop star. “It’s all so very sad,” he said. “I couldn’t get a lyric to fit on one of the new songs, so when Michael passed away I rewrote it with him in mind.”

Williams and Houston have been asked to perform some of the dates planned for Jackson’s 50 day run at London’s O2 Arena. A live concert involving the Jackson family and other guests is being planned at the venue for August 29, which would have been the singer’s 51st birthday.

I think God is beginning to release so many people who were prisoned by a media circulating lie not to talk about their view because of the lies about mj. Now is the time for those who see the truth through their hearts to speak about what they feel about mj and to give him the respect that is long due. The truth is beginning to unfold. Thank God for all of that.

It’s wonderful that these people are doing a tribute album to the King of Pop and I hope that the song selections do Michaels legacy justice. He was a great entertainer, songwriter, musician, and mega-talent that doesn’t come around often in this lifetime. I was looking at old footage of him performing as a little boy and I was so amazed at how much talent, soul and conviction he had in his voice at such a young age. I see why Joe pushed him so hard because he saw so much potential in Michael that it was astounding. I saw a clip of Michael doing a song called “Maria” and his vocals blew me away, at that age where was all this hurt, soul and desperation coming from. It was like a man-child, a soul that had been here before. Not even today, is there a singer young or old that can touch the mastery of this Pop Icon. The youngest of young or oldest of old can’t reach down in their soul and translate to the world such depth and feeling as Michael had. Michael Joseph Jackson, your calling has been answered and as God has taken his Angel from this earth, your spirit and legacy will be with us here on earth through your heartfelt music, and dance. Rest in Peace, you won’t have to hurt anymore.

That was very touching Troy….and I am in tears reading your comment. Nobody could’ve said it better. May God Bless you as well as Michael Jackson and the entire Jackson Family.

  • WeLoveMJ

Though this album of stars tribute to MJ sounds like a great idea, I just hope that they can pull off, or at least come close to reprising the style and technique that Michael offered his fans through their song. Michael is and will always be the King of Pop…and despite how anyone feels about his death or his life, only God knows his heart and his truth – so what we all need to understand and realize is that Michael did what God sent him to do and that is entertain us with his music, dancing and good spirit to help those in need – and to love and share with the children of the world the adoration of being a positive force in their lives. May his soul rest in Peace and his family and children be blessed.
