Avril Lavigne To Be Canadian Ambassador At 2010 World Expo
Avril Lavigne has been chosen to represent Canada as an ambassador at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China.
The Napanee, Ont., native announced her new gig in a MySpace blog entry Monday. “It’s really exciting as it’s the first time China has ever hosted World Expo and the theme is ‘Better City, Better Life,’” she wrote.
“I’ve played 2 shows in Shanghai. It’s a great city and i look forward to visiting again next year.”
According to the singer, more than 200 countries and international organisations will come together at the event to “create a better future for the world.” Expo 2010 is slated to run from May 1 to Oct. 31 next year and is expected to attract 70 million visitors.
Lavigne, whose most recent studio album was 2007’s “The Best Damn Thing,” is hugely popular in Asia and has even recorded portions of some of her songs in Mandarin.
Last month, the 24-year-old travelled to London to launch her latest project, a fragrance called “Black Star.”
