“The Wrestler” actress Evan Rachel Wood has signed on for a pivotal role in the upcoming second season of HBO’s “True Blood.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, Wood will play Sophie Anne, a 500-year-old vampire queen from France who “is charming, wily, ruthless and wise. She’s a consummate diplomat who has (or had) many of history’s most famous people on speed dial.”

The character is set to appear in the last two episodes of the season, which premieres on June 14. Wood may also continue the role in a potential third season, which the popular show is expected to receive.

“True Blood,” based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries book series by Charlaine Harris, stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Sam Trammell.

The 21-year-old Wood, whose other film credits include “Thirteen” and “Across the Universe,” will next appear in the Woody Allen-directed “Whatever Works,” which is scheduled for release this summer.

She last appeared on the small screen as a guest-star in a 2003 “CSI” episode and had a supporting role on the TV drama “Once and Again” between 1999 and 2002.
