Divas Revived On VH1
Music fans could have a say in anointing the next generation of “Divas” as VH1 brings back its performance special for the first time since 2005.
The show, which has featured such top female talent as Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Diana Ross since debuting in 1998, will air live on Sept. 17.
VH1 is asking the public to weigh in on who would make the perfect “Divas” performer, as well as their dream “Diva Duet,” by visiting the network’s blog and leaving a comment. More than 6,900 comments had been posted as of Wednesday evening.
“Now more than ever, the time feels right to re-launch this beloved show as a new generation of talented female artists has come to the forefront of music,” Lee Rolontz, executive vice president of music production for VH1, said in a statement. “We’ve heard our viewers, and we promise to deliver a live show that will generate the same ‘Divas’ excitement as in the past – while also infusing some new twists along the way.”
The 2009 show will be held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House in New York.
