“Semi-Pro” director Kent Alterman is trading in basketball hijinks for treasure hunting.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker is attached to direct and develop the comedy-adventure tale “Treehouse Gang.”

The movie is being described as “a grown-up version of ‘The Goonies,’” the 1985 cult classic about a group of kids who go on a wild adventure after stumbling across a pirate treasure map.

Alterman’s project follows six childhood friends who reunite in their late twenties to hunt down a treasure, much like the treasure hunts of their youth. Along the way, they delve into longtime friendships and grudges.

The script was penned by Timothy Dowling, who co-wrote the comedy “Role Models” starring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott.

Alterman made his directorial debut with 2008’s “Semi-Pro,” starring Will Ferrell as the owner-coach-player of a hapless basketball team. He also served as executive producer on such films as “After the Sunset” and “A History of Violence,” as well as the TV series “Strangers with Candy.”
