Broken Social Scene Biography Coming This Spring
Indie supergroup Broken Social Scene are getting the biography treatment with “This Book Is Broken,” due to hit stores on May 16 through House of Anasi Press.
Written by Toronto journalist Stuart Berman, who is also a personal friend of the band, the book recounts BSS’s history from their formation and now-legendary performances at Ted’s Wrecking Yard in 2000 to the making of their Arts & Crafts records and their ever-evolving lineup.
A foreword written by BSS co-founders Brendan Canning and Kevin Drew is included in the biography, which was compiled from interviews with band members and their associates.
The book also features 150 pieces of artwork, posters and photos, including snapshots from the band’s personal collections.
Fans can pre-order “This Book Is Broken” through the Arts and Crafts online store here.
In other BSS news, the Playlist blog reports that Canning and Drew appear in a wedding scene alongside two other Scene-sters in the upcoming movie “The Time Travellers’ Wife.” The foursome play a Broken Social Scene song before segueing into Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”
The Toronto-shot film, starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, hits theatres in August.
