Father Wants Money From Slumdog Director
Turns out his Azharuddin Ismail’s 15 minutes of fame wasn’t quite enough for his father. Ismail played Salim in the Oscar winning film, Slumdog Millionaire, and his father Mohammed believes he deserves more for his performance.
According to perezhilton.com, Ismail was paid an initial fee of $1,000 during the filming of Slumdog, and $25,000 dollars have supposedly been placed in a trust that Ismail will have access to once he turns 18. This arrangement was set up the the Slumdog director, Danny Boyle.
Another part of the deal is that Boyle supplies the 10-year-old boy with a $30 dollar a week allowance and has made a promise to purchase his family a new home, out of the slums, for $30,000 dollars.
This arrangement is not up to Mohammed, who was recently photographed beating his son last week while Ismail begged to rest after his tiring stay in Los Angeles for the Oscar ceremonies. Perezhilton.com reports that Mohammed is demanding the money now, telling reporters that “My son has taken on the world and won. I am so proud of him, but I want more money. I want the money now, it is of no use later. Mr. Boyle should take care of my son.”
Not much has been said on the Slumdog director’s side, but producers are insistent on keeping the exact amount of money in the trust a mystery.
