“Legally Mad,” David E. Kelley’s new drama for NBC, has its lead actress.

Kristin Chenoweth, Emmy-nominated for her supporting role on ABC’s recently cancelled “Pushing Daisies” will co-star in the quirky legal drama about a woman who takes a job at her father’s law firm.

Chenoweth, 40, will play Skippy Pylon, a brilliant and relentlessly chipper attorney who exhibits flashes of psychosis and is often mistaken for a teenager.

“I could only picture Kristin playing this role,” Kelley, creator of “Ally McBeal” and “Boston Legal,” said in a statement. “I’ve wanted to work with her for a long time and can’t wait to reveal her as someone who’s completely mad.”

Chenoweth has appeared in such TV series as “The West Wing” and the sitcom “Kristin.” She is also known for her stage work, originating the role of Glinda the Good Witch in Broadway’s “Wicked” and winning a Tony for her role in the Broadway musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

She can currently be seen in theatres in “Four Christmases” opposite Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn.
