Chris Brown is capping off a huge year by being named Billboard Magazine’s top artist of 2008.

The 19-year-old R&B artist nabbed the honour based on album sales, digital downloads, radio airplay and internet streams.

Brown, who was previously named Billboard’s top artist in 2006, had a string of hits this year, from solo tracks like “With You” and “Forever” to hit collaborations like “No Air” with Jordin Sparks.

He won three awards at the American Music Awards last month, including artist of the year, and recently scored two Grammy nominations.

Coming in at No. 2 on Billboard’s top artists list was Lil Wayne, followed by Rihanna, Alicia Keys and Taylor Swift to round out the top five.

Brown recently spoke to the magazine about working on new music with Rihanna, who is also his girlfriend.

“I actually have a couple of songs written already that would be dope collaborations between me and her,” he said. “And I’m writing for her new album now.”
