The Kids in the Hall are returning to TV.

The beloved Canadian comedy troupe will star in and write a new miniseries for the CBC, the network confirmed Friday, a week after Dave Foley spoke about the project at the Gemini Awards.

The series, tentatively titled “Death Comes to Town,” will feature the five original Kids — Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson — playing multiple characters over eight episodes.

The show will have a single story arc, instead of the sketch comedy the troupe is known for.

The project, which is still in development, is not expected to air before the fall of 2010.

The Kids in the Hall, who got their start as an improv troupe, had their own show on the CBC from 1988 to 1994. They even had a dedicated fanbase in the U.S., where their series aired on CBS.

The members reunited in 2007 at Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival and teamed up for a cross-Canada comedy tour earlier this year.
