Barenaked Ladies Record Bluegrass-y Version Of Hockey Theme
The Barenaked Ladies have followed in Simple Plan’s footsteps by recording their own version of the old “Hockey Night in Canada” theme.
The Ladies’ rendition is described as a throwback to the bluegrass-inspired feel of some of the band’s earlier material, with the banjo even making an appearance.
The tune, which was recorded in a Toronto studio, will be heard during televised games on TSN and RDS starting next month.
The original “HNIC” theme was a fixture on CBC for years, but CTV nabbed the rights to the song earlier this year.
The network commissioned members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to give the song a slight makeover and also recently had Simple Plan record a rock version of the theme.
