Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has been hospitalized after suffering serious injuries in a car accident.

Lead singer Chino Moreno wrote on the band’s blog that Cheng, 38, is in “a serious but stable condition” following the accident Monday in Santa Clara, Calif.

“I am on my way up north right now to be by his side along with the rest of our bandmates and family,” Moreno continued.

“Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I’m praying that his strength will get him through this. Please say a prayer for him as well.”

Cheng is a spoken-word poet outside of his work with the Deftones, which formed in Sacramento in 1988.

The Grammy-winning band has been working on its sixth studio album, “Eros,” which is slated for release in spring.
