Performers Added To New Orleans Music Festival
The show will go on in New Orleans.
After the city dodged the worst of Hurricane Gustav, producers of the 2008 Voodoo Music Experience festival are moving ahead with next month’s event.
Besides putting single-day tickets on sale and releasing a day-by-day schedule, they have also added a number of artists to the lineup, including The Mars Volta, N.E.R.D, TV On The Radio, Irma Thomas, Butthole Surfers, Ben Jelen and Fishbone.
They join previously announced headliners R.E.M., Nine Inch Nails and Stone Temple Pilots on a bill that now includes more than 130 performers, including many local acts.
The full lineup can be found on the official Voodoo Music Experience website here.
The approach of Gustav gave festival founder Stephen Rehage flashbacks to New Orlean’s deadly Hurricane Katrina disaster three years ago. Event organizers managed to stage a scaled-down Voodoo, with proceeds going to Katrina-related charities, only two months after the disaster — no easy task considering 80 per cent of the city had been flooded.
“I remembered all the struggles of 2005 and the options we might have to consider, but not moving forward this year never crossed my mind,” Rehage told The Times Picayune.
The festival, now in its tenth year, will take place at City Park Oct. 24 to 26.
