Coldplay To Release New EP In December, New Album Next Year
More Coldplay material is on the way, mere months after the release of “Viva La Vida.”
Clearing up rumours about an impending new album, Chris Martin told BBC 6 Music that the band will release an EP, to be called either “Prospects March” or “Prospects Songs,” before the end of the year.
It will contain songs left over from the band’s sessions for “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends,” which was released in June and has gone on to become one of the year’s bestselling albums with more than 1.6 million units sold so far.
Martin says the EP will be released around Christmas — and that’s not all.
The band, currently in the middle of a world tour, are also aiming to have a full-length album ready by December 2009.
The record, which they have yet to begin work on, would be Coldplay’s fifth studio album and mark nearly a decade since the band released their debut, 2000’s “Parachutes.”
In other Coldplay news, the band has scored a leading four nominations at this year’s Q Awards.
Besides getting nods in the Best Album, Best Track and Best Video categories, they will go up against Muse, Oasis, Kings of Leon and Metallica for Best Act.
The winners from all categories will be announced at an Oct. 6 ceremony in London.
